My Dotfiles
The Manual
README
This document is at the top level of my dotfiles directory.
My dotfiles are managed with stow and I make use of the --dotfiles option in my stowrc, which makes it so dotfiles can
be named "dot-foo" rather than ".foo":
--dotfiles
-v
Most of the files are organized in the typical stow fashion, where the directory layout mirrors how the dotfiles will be
"installed". For example the git subdirectory:
dotfiles/
└── git/
├── dot-config/
│ └── git/
│ ├── config
│ └── ignore
└── gitconfig.org
To "install" the git dotfiles is a matter of running stow git while in the top-level of the dotfiles/ directory.
cd ~/dotfiles && stow git
There are some directories that don't follow the typical stow layout, either containing an assortment of scripts and
data files, or containing a collection of dotfiles that are somehow related. [ "related" in my mind at least. ]
An example of the former is browsers/, which contains thing such as backups of my ublock origin settings. An example of
the latter is os-themeing/, which contains dotfiles for various linux UI libraries and applications.
If there is an org file in the top level of the subdirectory, that means those dotfiles are literate dotfiles —
generated from tangling the org file.
Operating Systems
These dotfiles are in use for my personal use on Arch, Gentoo, and Guix systems. The specifics of my OS setup are contained in my OS install notes:
- arch.org
- gentoo.org
- guix.org
various org files exist in the subdirectories to document/generate various configs and scripts
Footnotes:
"related" in my mind at least.
